Electricity is our most versatile energy source, we use it in innumerable ways, because of this it can be difficult to know where electrical energy is used.

A device that aids you in monitoring home electricity use is an Electrisave household electricity monitor. This continually monitors the electric current consumed by your home and displays it in a number of different ways enabling you to identify what items and appliances consume electrical power and how much they are consuming.

The Electrisave display should be placed where it can be easily and often seen and so prompt you to switch off non essential items. Look at it often, especially before going to bed and if you are leaving your home for a while, to check how much electricity is being consumed. The Electrisave allows you to reduce home electricity use, it can quickly show you if you have inadvertently left something switched on.

You will probably find that your home always consumes a small amount of electricity, this powers equipment like bell transformers, intruder alarm systems, smoke alarms, cordless telephones, mains electricity powered clocks, equipment that is left on standby, etc etc. Typically homes continually consume 100 to 200 watts.

If your home continually consumes 100 watts over a year this equates to an energy use of 874 kilowatt hours which, assuming the average cost of a kilowatt hour is 10p costs £87. By turning off non essential equipment you can significantly reduce this.
